Hi-Tec Sports USA of Portland names Nike veteran as its chief executive

A one-time Columbia Sportswear vice president who started his career with Nike has been named chief executive of Portland-based Hi-Tec Sports USA , the footwear and apparel brand announced Friday.

Hi-Tec said Brad Gebhard will be expected to guide the brand's U.S. growth by adding distribution channels and promoting its shoes, boots and clothing through the privately held company's marketing campaigns. Gebhard will also lead a Hi-Tec subsidiary, Modesto, Calif.-based Magnum, a footwear and clothing brand aimed at military and public safety customers.

Ed van Wezel, global chief executive of Amsterdam-based Hi-Tec Sports PLC and son of the company founder, said the U.S. market is the biggest growth opportunity for a company that sells products in more than 70 countries.

"Hi-Tec and Magnum are well-established global brands with an authentic and valuable heritage spanning 35 years," van Wezel said a written statement.
